Maine Equal Justice Partners Executive Director Search
Maine Equal Justice Partners seeks a dynamic and experienced leader to serve
as Executive Director of its organization. Maine Equal Justice Partners (MEJP)
is a small nonprofit organization, located in Augusta, Maine, that represents
the interests of low-income people in the state legislature, the courts, and
before administrative agencies. In its ten-year history MEJP has been an
effective and highly-respected advocate for protections and improvements in
access to health care, food assistance, income supports, education and training,
and employment for low-income people.
As the leader of MEJP, the Executive Director directs the organization's
activities in legislative affairs, litigation, administrative advocacy, client
support services, fundraising, and outreach and training. The Executive Director
is a visible spokesperson for social and economic justice in Maine, and works
with a wide variety of policymakers, legal service providers, advocates, and
other stakeholders to achieve the organization's mission. The ED is supported
by a committed Board of Directors and a dedicated staff.
Qualifications: Applicants must demonstrate a deep commitment to
justice for low-income individuals and extensive knowledge of various areas of
poverty law, including health, welfare, and food assistance. They must
demonstrate an understanding of public policy issues and processes and be able
to work effectively with a variety of organizations and individuals with diverse
perspectives, including elected and appointed officials, consumers of service
and the public. The successful candidate will be a proven leader who has
significant and relevant senior administrative and management experience and can
be an effective advocate for Maine Equal Justice and for the people it serves.
Applicants must be attorneys who are current members of the Maine bar or
eligible for admission. Prior experience in legal services is preferred.
