Building leadership within the low-income community!
Learn and teach skills, support and encourage each other, and share your knowledge,
ideas and feelings about what it takes and what it means to be a leader.
We can dare to be leaders in ending poverty
by working together to learn, teach, and support each other.Topics to be covered
What it means to be a leader — redefine leadership; identify and learn to deal with barriers to being a leader; hear stories from low-income people who are leaders.
How to organize—reaching hearts and minds and getting people involved.
How to run a meeting—getting people to attend and participate; ways to run a meeting (Robert’s rules of Order, consensus…).
How laws get made and how you can be involved—user-friendly presentation by MAIN members and others who have been involved. Learn about the legislative process.
Finding the courage and learning how to speak in public—talk about how it feels to speak in public; role playing.
How to work with the media—covering press releases; editorial boards; letter writing campaigns and press events.
How to be a good leader: the ethics of leadership—modeling respectful behavior; creating unity in a diverse group; dealing with discrimination and other “divide and conquer” tactics; dealing with self-doubt and lack of self-worth.Register online or Print and mail a registration form
