It’s A Fact: Funding for TANF Program
- Both State and Federal funding for Maine’s Temporary Assistance
for Needy Families (TANF) Program has remained essentially
the same since 1996.
- Maine’s monthly basic cash benefit for TANF
families has not increased since 2001.
- With a maximum monthly benefit of $485 for a family of 3, Maine’s
TANF benefit is the lowest in all of New England.
- State spending for TANF is less than 1% of the State’s entire General Fund.
