Whose House? OUR House!
For the last two years, MAIN has held its annual conference at the State House in Augusta. At both, we asked the question,
“Whose House?” and answered it, “Our House!” Too often government is seen as having “nothing to do with me.” From experience, MAIN knows that we can
and do have an important role to play.
At the conference last November, MAIN members identified and voted on the top issues that they want to work on. The Legislature will consider legislation
this year that deals with some of these issues. MAIN and Maine Equal Justice Partners (MEJP) will closely follow these bills. We’ll speak up on many
of the ones that concern people with low income but…
We need your help! You must be willing to put in your two cents if you want laws that will help, not hurt, people. By sharing your personal experiences
- your stories – you will show how you would be affected by their decisions. How will they know unless you tell them?
Here is how you can get involved so your voice is heard:
- Read the articles in this newsletter,
- Contact us if any of the issues affect you,
- Encourage friends or family members affected to contact us,
- Share your story,
- Join our Email Action Network to get alerts and updates,
- Write letters to your local newspaper about a bill, and
- Contact your legislators to let them know what you think Read more.
MAIN and Maine Equal Justice can help by telling you:
- When a bill will have a public hearing,
- If your legislator sits on the committee hearing the bill,
- The best time to share your thoughts with legislators, and
- When a bill will be voted on by the full legislature.
