Maine Equal Justice Partners and
Maine Association of Interdependent Neighborhoods
Maine Equal Justice Partners
(MEJP) is a non-profit legal aid
organization founded in 1996.
We were formed when Congress
prohibited legal aid providers, like
Pine Tree Legal Assistance, from
doing systemic work - work that would have an
effect on other people in similar situations.
MEJP represents people with low income before
administrative agencies, the courts, and in the
Legislature. We work on behalf of our primary
client, the Maine Association of Interdependent
Neighborhoods. We also work with individual
clients when doing so would help other people in
similar situations.
MEJP works on issues that affect people’s daily
lives: adequate health care, food assistance, income
supports, shelter, fair working conditions, and
education and training opportunities. We also do
research and analysis, and outreach and education.
Our goal is public policy reform that will improve
the lives of individuals in Maine with low incomes.
Maine Association of Interdependent Neighborhoods
(MAIN) formed in December 1980 to create a statewide voice
for low-income concerns. We are a coalition of individuals and
organizations, some low income and some not, working together to
gain control of our living conditions. We advocate for our common
needs; share resources; and learn how to take part in the political process.
MAIN encourages everyone to get involved helping to
make decisions that affect our daily lives.
