Health Insurance
for Children Up to Age 25
or Who Are Disabled
As of September 2007, health insurers in
Maine must offer continued health care
coverage for dependent children on their
parent’s policy. To get this coverage, the
child must be:
- Under age 25 or disabled. (A disabled child can be any age, but must be “dependent” on their parent).
- Unmarried.
- Have no dependent children of their own.
- A resident of Maine or enrolled full time in college.
Insurance companies must offer this coverage through their individual and group health insurance policies.
Some insurance companies may charge you an extra fee if you want this coverage.
Employers may decline this offer of coverage. They do not have to make it available to their
employees.

for Affordable Health Care (CAHC) at 1-800-965-7476.
