Medical Reasons Can Stop a Utility Shut Off
Do you or someone in your home have a medical reason why their utilities should not be shut off?
- Will your doctor, or your doctor’s office, give you a note saying that you are seriously ill?
- Will they also say that if you lost your utilities it would be bad for your health?
If you can get a doctor’s note, then you can keep your utilities on for at least 30 days. You can even get them kept
on for up to 90 days.
* Remember: Your utilities can not usually be cut off in the winter.

Will I have to pay the bill later?
Yes, you will. But, your utility company must agree to a “reasonable” payment plan with you. That means
it has to be an amount that you can really afford to pay. You may be able to get help with paying your bills.
