Keep MAIN Strong!
Join Us to Improve the Lives of ALL Maine People!

Dear MAIN members and friends,

MAIN has been doing lots of great work. A big thanks to so many of you who have given your time, passed along information, shared your knowledge, and sent your donations! Here’s a bit of what we’ve been doing:

Ending Poverty: Economic Human Rights for all!
MAIN is working with the Maine Community Action Association to meet with people with low incomes in seven Maine communities. Your ideas on how to end poverty and increase economic security will help us plan the October 27th Maine Poverty Symposium. We also worked with MCAA to pass a law creating a commission to advise the Governor and Legislature on poverty issues. Read more

Reaching Out Statewide
MAIN’s 2007 annual conference at the State House was a great success according to people from all over the state who attended. MAIN continues to develop relationships with individuals and groups from Aroostook County to York County to gain understanding and strengthen our voice. The Northern MAIN regional chapter is getting the active again so our September 11th statewide meeting will be held in Bangor.

Working Together: Maine Can Do Better
MAIN worked with the Maine Can Do Better coalition to prevent many serious cuts to programs including health care, food assistance and domestic violence services. Several MAIN members testified at public hearings and spoke with the press to help educate legislators and the public. Many attended the March rally, and called or emailed their legislators too.

Leading as a Team
MAIN is now using a new style of leadership – a team approach. All leaders on the team are volunteers, have other family/ work responsibilities, and deal with the challenges of having low incomes. Working as a leadership team allows us to share responsibilities, learn from each other, and encourage each other. Let us know if you’re interested in joining the team.

In order to keep moving forward to improve the lives of ALL Maine people, MAIN needs your help.

Please print, fill out and return our appeal and survey form.
