Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program (MBCHP) Update
The Maine Department of Health and Human Services has announced that MBCHP will expand services to women age 35-39.
To qualify, a woman must:
- Have seen a doctor, nurse practitioner, or physician’s assistant.
- Need follow-up tests for either a possible breast cancer, an abnormal Pap test, OR not had a Pap test in 5 or more years.
- Either have no health insurance, health insurance that does not cover mammograms or Pap tests, or have insurance with a
high deductible.
- Meet income guidelines (250% of federal poverty level or below).
MBCHP continues services to women 40 and over. The MBCHP continues to provide free Pap tests and mammograms to women age 40 and older that meet health insurance and income guidelines stated above.
The Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program (MBCHP) provides free:
- Mammograms
- Pap tests
- Pelvic exams
- Some diagnostic services
- Breast exams

Maine Breast Cancer Coalition Support Service Fund
- Do you need a mammogram or other breast diagnostic services that are not covered or only partially covered by your insurance
or other assistance programs?
- Do you have breast cancer related medical expenses not covered or only partially covered by your insurance or other
assistance programs?
- Are you a breast cancer patient needing financial assistance for travel or temporary living expenses while undergoing
treatment?
Help is available from the
Maine Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC) Support Service Fund.
The Support Service Fund provides uninsured or underinsured residents of Maine with
financial assistance for breast health or breast cancer related items or services. The Fund has awarded grants to hundreds of
Maine people for a wide range of services including mammograms, ultrasound, bras and prostheses, surgical costs, prescriptions,
wigs, genetic testing, transportation to treatment costs, temporary help with rent or utilities for people in treatment, and many
more services. The Support Service Fund is truly a program of “last resort” for people who have nowhere else to turn.
