Update: Dirigo Choice Health Insurance

On September 1, 2007 the Dirigo Health Agency capped enrollment in the Dirigo Choice health insurance program. This is because of limited funding for the program. People currently in the program will not be affected by this change. It only means that new people, who need a subsidy to pay for the insurance can not come onto the program at this time. Exceptions can be made for new employees of employers who currently offer Dirigo Choice to their workers. People who are above 300% of the federal poverty level are still able to enroll since they do not get a subsidy.

The Maine Legislature will consider future funding for the Dirigo program when it starts up again in January 2008.

Please call the Dirigo Health Agency for information about enrolling in Dirigo. You may be able to get on a waiting list for the program, even if you can’t get onto the program now.
