Mental Health Consumer Councils Forming
Be the change you want to see!
As people in recovery from mental illness, my co-workers and I would like to invite you to join
us at a conference to launch the new Consumer Council System of Maine (CCSM). Under the direction
of the consumer-led Transitional Planning Group (TPG), we are organizing conferences around the state
to introduce you to the Consumer Council
System and the opportunities it offers, and hear about your experiences.
The new Consumer Council System will give consumers a way to make their voices heard about their
needs on a local and statewide level. The Statewide Consumer Council, with representation from local
councils, will make recommendations to the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and others
who make public policy decisions.
We need to gather as many consumers together to talk about the possibilities, as well as to plan
setting up regional and local councils. With funding from DHHS, the TPG has put together an all-day
conference in your region. We will provide lunch and help with transportation. This is an educational
conference to bring together people in recovery from mental illness to learn how to take steps to form
regional and local councils. The Councils will work to address the needs of consumers in your local
regions, and will send representatives from your region to serve on the Statewide Consumer Council.
Come to learn how you can get involved and be part of this exciting transformation in Maine. Be the
change you want to see! Together, we have the power to create a new vision, to take charge of our
recovery.
For more information, please contact your regional coordinator. We are available to speak to you by phone or to your organization, club, or group. We can also register you for the conference.
