and Small Businesses
DirigoChoice gives Maine people an affordable health insurance option. DirigoChoice is one of the
fastest-growing health insurance plans ever offered in Maine. As of December 2006, more than 13,000
people were in DirigoChoice.
Of the 13,000 people:
- 46% are individuals,
- 27% are self-employed,
- 27% are in businesses with 2 to 50 employees, and
- Nearly 81% have incomes less than 300% of the federal poverty level.
DirigoChoice offers full coverage. It pays for prescription drugs. It also pays for doctor, hospital,
and specialist visits. There is no deductible for preventative care. DirigoChoice is available even if
you are in bad health or a bad medical condition has been found.
The premiums and deductibles you pay are based on your income. A family of 4 people making up to
$60,000, or one person making up to $29,400, can get a discount. A discount can be up to 80% off the
regular price!
