Staff Changes at MEJP:
Fond Farewell to Mary McPherson
Maine Equal Justice bids a fond farewell to Mary McPherson, who is leaving us in July.
As many of you know, Mary has been MEJP’s health care training and education expert. Over the years Mary has conducted hundreds of training workshops, worked hard for low-income people on many health care policy committees and councils, prepared countless educational materials, and reached thousands of people.
During her 6 years at MEJP, Mary has helped make very complex programs like MaineCare, Drugs for the Elderly, and Medicare Part D understandable for both consumers and providers. Most recently, Mary tackled Medicare Part D. She worked with others in Maine to make this program help rather than hurt Maine people. She’s written many articles for the MAIN Update including the one in this issue with the latest information on Medicare Part D. She’s helped to make sense out of some very complicated programs.
But, Mary is so much more than a trainer, writer, and negotiator. She has brought great knowledge and insight to all of MEJP’s work. Her wisdom and good judgment have guided us. And, she has delighted us with her wonderful humor and spirit.
Mary, we will miss you – but we wish you well in your new pursuits!
Tribute to Mary from Russell Anderson, MAIN President
To look back at what Mary McPherson has contributed to the people of Maine is beyond my comprehension. I’ve been in meetings with Mary where policy in MaineCare changes were processed with precision, and always with people in mind. Her leadership tied with an unfathomable depth of knowledge on healthcare programs has been a great asset. Thousands of people receiving medical benefits in Maine have been well represented. Thanks for being there moving Social Justice forward.
I appreciate your sharing and mentoring; I’ve learned a lot. The best to you, Mary!
